How we calculate your score
- Words per minute (WPM)
- We use the standard definition: one word = 5 characters (including spaces and punctuation). Your headline speed is net WPM: characters in your final text ÷ 5 ÷ minutes, minus one word per minute for every uncorrected error.
- Raw speed
- Every keystroke counts, including mistakes and characters you later deleted. It shows how fast your fingers move.
- Accuracy
- Correct keystrokes out of all keystrokes. Backspacing fixes the text but does not erase the mistake from your accuracy.
- Final text accuracy
- How much of the text you finally submitted is correct, after corrections.
- Consistency
- 100 × (1 − coefficient of variation) of your speed in each full second. 100 means perfectly even; it needs at least 5 seconds of typing.
- Timing
- The clock starts with your first keystroke and uses your browser's monotonic clock. If you switch tabs or the window loses focus, the test pauses; paused timed tests are not eligible for leaderboards.
- Characters
- We compare what you see as one character (a grapheme), so an Arabic letter with its diacritic, or an accented letter, counts once. Different hamza and alef forms are different letters.
- Mobile
- Touch-keyboard results are labelled and never compared with physical-keyboard results.
