The accounting workspace

Keep the books for a company that doesn't exist.

11 fictional companies, each with its own documents, chart of accounts and opening balances. You read the paperwork, post to a real ledger, reconcile, adjust and close — and every figure on the statements comes from your entries, so a mistake in week one shows up at month end.

Documents and bank statements
Invoices, remittances, payroll, contracts, count sheets — read them as an accountant would.
A real ledger
Post entries, reverse mistakes, reconcile the bank. Posted entries can't be edited, only corrected.
Statements from your work
Trial balance, income statement, financial position and cash flows built from your own entries.
Close and lock
Adjust, close and lock each period; later months start from the balances you left.

The method

Reading is the smallest part of every lesson.

Accounting is learned the way it is practised: by recording transactions and seeing what they do to the numbers.

  1. 01

    Understand

A short explanation of the idea, in plain language, with the rule stated precisely.

  2. 02

    Observe

A worked example or a simulator you can change and watch respond.

  3. 03

    Practise

Graded exercises with hints: journal entries, worksheets, classifications, calculations.

  4. 04

    Apply

A business scenario at the end of every lesson that needs judgement, not just the rule.

  5. 05

    Master

Mastery counts only when you've earned it — visiting a page isn't progress.

Feedback that teaches

A balanced entry can still be wrong. We tell you how.

Entries are graded on their substance — which accounts change and by how much — so line order doesn't matter, valid alternatives are accepted, and a wrong account is caught even when debits equal credits.

Typical practice site

“Incorrect. Try again.”

Accounting Quest

“Your entry balances, but you recorded an immediate expense instead of a prepaid asset. The payment covers future periods, so the cost becomes an expense as the cover is used.”
